The Guardia Civil arrests a person for fraud with the “Wash Wash Wash” scam
- Various items used in the fraud were seized, as well as 27,750 euros in cash.
- The scam consists in convincing victims to invest a certain amount of money using banknotes colored with chemical products.
The Guardia Civil of Lanzarote has arrested a 45-year-old man in the municipality of Teguise for fraud involving the well-known "wash wash" or "colored banknote" method.
The operation began when Guardia Civil officers observed an argument between two people on a public street in the town of Costa Teguise. The officers approached and discovered several packages wrapped in black plastic. According to the victim's statements at the scene, the reason for the argument was that the alleged perpetrator was attempting to leave the area with the legal currency that had been handed over to him for later inking.
The modus operandi of this scam is meticulously planned. In this scheme, known as the "black money" scam, the fraudsters approach their victims with a convincing story: They claim to have exported large amounts of money from their home country in black color to avoid customs inspections. To support their story, they display bundles of paper designed to appear to contain genuine, dyed banknotes and strategically place real banknotes at the front of the bundle. They then demonstrate the use of chemicals that supposedly "clean" the banknotes, thus gaining the victim's trust.
Once the victim is convinced, they are persuaded to hand over a considerable amount of cash with the promise of receiving more banknotes.
Cash, with the promise of receiving more "impure" banknotes. However, after the exchange is complete, the victims discover that they have been cheated and the packages they received contain only worthless black cardboard.
This type of fraud relies on both the greed and naivety of victims who are lured with the promise of quick and easy profit.
The Guardia Civil has intensified its efforts to combat this crime in order to prevent more people from falling victim to this type of fraud.

A criminal group that stole 500,000 euros through the killer scam has been arrested.
They threatened their victims with death or physical attack using videos in which they pretended to be hitmen and displayed weapons. They obtained the victims' personal information and phone numbers from websites offering adult services. 300 victims were located, and 19 people were arrested and investigated.
As part of Operation Mamol TF, the Guardia Civil arrested and investigated 19 individuals from the province of A Coruña who were members of a criminal organization that extorted money from their victims after they accessed websites with adult content. Investigators identified more than 300 victims who were defrauded of a total of €500,000.
The investigation began more than a year ago after the victims filed a complaint with the Guardia Civil in Tenerife. According to these complaints, the victims received serious threats via mobile phone after entering their phone number and other personal information on adult websites.
These threats were accompanied by videos depicting physical assaults on third parties, in which the extortionists displayed firearms and demanded monetary payments as a condition that the victims would not suffer similar assaults.
The hitman scam
This practice is known as the "Hitman Scam." Criminals place fake ads on websites offering adult services, so that once the victim uses the service, they receive threats from a supposed hitman unless they pay a certain amount.
Fearing such threats, victims sometimes agree to pay, although the scammers may continue their coercion and demand more money.
Thanks to various computer analyses and analyses of documents, terminals and lines, investigators discovered that the extortionists had carried out more than 370 criminal acts using this modus operandi, stealing 500,000 euros and sending 180,000 euros to the Dominican Republic through various companies.

The Guardia Civil is investigating 16 people accused of stealing 2,800 kg of avocados from farms in northern Tenerife.
The modus operandi was always the same: They gained access to the farms by jumping over or breaking through the fence. All of the accused are neighbors of the affected communities, which allowed them to plan the thefts to avoid detection.
With the start of the fruit and vegetable season, particularly avocados, Guardia Civil officers belonging to the ROCA team, specialised in the prevention and investigation of agricultural and livestock theft, have taken a measure to intensify the prevention and investigation of rural thefts and have solved 22 thefts/burglaries on farms in various municipalities in the north of the island of Tenerife.
The crimes took place between September and February of this year, with the accused, neighbors of the area, gaining access to the interior of the farms, generally during daylight hours, by jumping over or breaking through the fence and stealing a total of 2,800 kg of avocados, 30 kg of potatoes, 10 kg of chestnuts, as well as various sheets of corrugated iron used to support the vines, all of which they placed in sacks and placed in the vehicles they used to travel.
It turned out that the accused were local neighbors who had previously planned the raids on the various farms, as they were well-versed in the area and always knew that the owners and employees were there. It is worth noting that two of the alleged perpetrators were hunters who, due to their hunting skills, were able to verify that no one was on the farm at the time of the crime.
